MAFO
MAFO is a digital platform dedicated to elevating outsider art and forging connections between unconventional artists and visionary collectors. The brand celebrates authenticity, creative rebellion, and unrestrained self-expression. Its identity is built on a reinterpretation of the “Ship of Fools,” a powerful metaphor for the fearless journey of artists who navigate beyond the boundaries of traditional art. From this single conceptual foundation emerged two distinct visual directions — each offering a unique lens on the same core idea.

DIRECTION 1
THE ART VESSEL
This direction interprets the Ship of Fools through a more expressive and symbolic lens. The “A” in MAFO becomes a stylized sail crowned with a small red flag — a bold statement of presence, defiance, and pride in MAFO’s outsider status. Like the first direction, the sail also functions as an art vessel, subtly presenting artwork through negative space. This approach leans into the brand’s rebellious, visionary character, delivering a visual language that is both striking and deeply symbolic.

MODULAR IDENTITY
This direction channels the Ship of Fools concept through a lens of simplicity and modularity. A single triangular form, inspired by the ship’s sails, is repeated to construct both the vessel and the MAFO wordmark, creating a seamless link between concept and execution. The sail itself doubles as a literal art vessel, framing and revealing the work within negative space. The result is a flexible, geometric identity system that remains consistent and instantly recognizable across any application.
